My story is similar to so many others that have struggled with their weight all their life. I could lose the weight, especially when I was younger, but would ultimately gain all of it and more back. The cycle became just a part of my everyday life. I’d gain weight and wear the large sizes clothes in my closet and then drop a few kgs, then gain them back and start all over.  I had sleep apnea, beginning stages of diabetes, high cholesterol, acid reflux and the list goes on. I was being treated for high blood pressure, I had aches and pains in my feet, knees and sometimes my back, and I was so unhappy with myself & my size.

I was a good cricket player. I like cricket very much. Due to some unexpected accident I went to Bangalore. There I enjoyed my life with food and entertainments. Then I got Obese. Then I came back to Orissa to my native place Kendrapada. Then the weight & waist started increasing heavily.MY WEIGHT WAS 154 KGS before surgery. One day I came to Shanti hospital for some work. Then I heard about this surgery. Then I attended the OBESITY SUPPORT GROUP MEETING which was arranged by Shanti Memorial Hospital.

Then I consulted with Dr Sreejoy Patnaik about this surgery. I was just shocked to learn that by undergoing this weight loss surgery I can lose my weight and get back my past days. Then I did the surgery on 23 April 2010. which was god sent  gift by DR SREEJOY PATNAIK and his team of surgeons. I would like to thank  Dr Sreejoy Patnaik and his team for giving such a unforgettable change in my life. I would also like to thank the entire staff members of Shanti Memorial Hospital for there excellent hospitality and care.

Now I am losing weight very fast and feeling a  new change of life. Now my weight is 110 kgs , and I have lost 6 inches from my waistline. My trousers and shirts have tremendously loosened up, I am thinking of buying a new set of clothes after completely shedding out another few kilos.

I had undergone a Gastric sleeve surgery in February 2010. I first read about the surgery in a newspaper article.After which i attended a Seminar in Kolkata,
where i came to know about this surgery properly.I tried Very hard to reduce my weight before but as i was a food lover, I could not. I lost some weight due to exercise and swimming but gained all of it back and more. I started having High Blood Pressure, back pains, body pains, and my stamina was also very low.

I use to have trouble finding good clothes of my size.My weight was 138 kgs. I learned that Dr. Sreejoy Patnaik was starting this surgery in Shanti Memorial Hospital.
I went to him and consulted him to take my case as the first one in his Hospital. He was very happy to take my case as he knew me since childhood. My father happens to be a closed friend of him. I underwent the surgery on 27th February, 2010, and was discharged on 1st March, which happens to be my birthday. I got a lovely gift for my birthday,”MY NEW LIFE.” I feel confident about my self after operation. I feel energetic, happy, light. My back pain and body pains have vanished.

Now when people and relative, who where against my surgery, see me, they feel very happy and astonished for the changes in me. I have already lost 63Kgs in 10 months.my Waist has reduced by 10 Inches, And my hips by 8 inches.I would like to thank my parents, who supported me taking the decision of surgery and helping me getting motivated.I would like to thank Dr. Sreejoy Patnaik for motivating me and doing the surgery. I would also like to thank the staff of the Hospital for their great hospitality and care they took of me before the operation, during the operation and after the operation.

Putting over weight in a very early age has now become a very common thing in our ultra modern society. But it is too difficult to manage.I Basanta  Sahoo aged about 16,now managing to lead a normal life only  because of Dr Sreejay Patnaik. Just few months back,I had a very abnormal weight (i.e.127kg), BMI 45, & waist 129cm. I tried my level best to get rid out of this for which I was facing many problems like High B.P, Diabetics as well as mental instability. I used to find problems in choosing my size of dress.

I first came to know about the surgery from a TV channel- Discovery channel (Extreme Bodies). As I was a bronco asthma patient, so I was prescribed Steroid (Betnosol) which I took for 6 & 1/2 yrs. Then I came to know from a news paper ad that Dr Sreejay Patnaik(MS), of  Shanti Memorial Hospital has already done a successful surgery on Bariatric.
Then my father consulted him and by his advice, I did the surgery on 23rd April 2010.  Now after the surgery my weight is 105 kg and my waist is 119cm which is not less than a miracle for me. After reducing so much weight, when my friends, seniors, and my relatives see me, they just surprised and appreciated me for taking such a drastic step.
